USD Men Claim 5th Place Finish at Hal Sutton Intercollegiate; Walsh Ties for 5th

HAUGHTON, La. -- The University of South Dakota men’s golf team improved its position during the final round of the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Olde Oaks Golf Club in Haughton, La.
The Coyotes shot a team score of 308 and finished the 54-hole event at 932, passing North Dakota for the fifth spot.
Senior Jim Walsh (Sioux Falls, S.D.) capped off an outstanding tournament by tying for fifth overall. Walsh shot an even-par 72 to finish at five-over-par 221 (78-71-72). Walsh’s 72 on Tuesday was tied for the third-best score of the day.
Freshman Ben Heller (Aberdeen, S.D.) added a 79 Tuesday to finish at 238 (78-81-79), while freshman Ty Munneke (Champilin, Minn.) also finished at 238 (83-74-81) after shooting an 83 during the final round.
Junior Matt Campbell (Aberdeen, S.D.) finished at 243 (84-80-79) while junior Kyle Scanlon (Stillwater, Minn.) finished at 244 (79-87-78) at the event.
Binghamton won the tournament at 882, with Centenary’s Nick Faitz winning the overall title with an even-par 216.
The USD men return to action on Monday, April 5 when they host the Coyote Invite. The two-day event, which concludes on April 6, will have a field of teams including Augustana, Northwestern, Sioux Falls, Northern State and Concordia-Moorhead.
