Munneke Leads Coyote Men at Day 1 of America Sky Championship

EDINBURG, Texas –- Ty Munneke shot a 36-hole score of 159 and is tied for 16th to lead the University of South Dakota men’s golf team after the opening two rounds of the America Sky Golf Championship, which was completed Monday at the Los Lagos Golf Course in Edinburg, Texas.
USD sits in a tie for ninth with Hartford after Day 1 of competition. The Coyotes are at 657 for 36 holes. USD shot a 318 and was in a tie for sixth after 18 holes but slipped to a 339 on the second 18 to drop into a tie for ninth. USD is just 10 shots behind eighth-place Utah Valley heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Munneke (Champlin, Minn.) shot a 78 to open the day and followed with an 81. He is just four shots out of a tie for eighth place.
Senior Jim Walsh (Sioux Falls, S.D.) also had a solid opening day, finishing at 162 (79-83). Freshman Marc Gubbels (Yankton, S.D.) is at 170 (82-88), while junior Kyle Scanlon (Stillwater, Minn.) is at 172 (79-93) after Day 1. Freshman Ben Heller (Aberdeen, S.D.) is at 174 (87-87) after the opening two rounds.
The final 18 holes are set for Tuesday.
