EDINBURG, Texas –- The University of South Dakota women’s golf team is in fifth place after the first two rounds of the Great West Championships, which were completed Monday at the Los Lagos Golf Club in Edinburg, Texas.
USD is at 769 after 36 holes. The Coyotes shot 383 during the first round and 386 during the second round. The Coyotes are 65 shots out of fourth but lead sixth-place Chicago State by 17 shots for fifth.
Freshman Nicole Funck (Dakota Dunes, S.D.) leads USD with a two-round total of 189 (96-93), good for a tie for 22nd. Freshman Tara Ravellette (Philip, S.D.) is at 191 (92-99), while junior Steph Zavilla (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) is at 192 after firing a pair of 96s. Sophomore Katie Benedict (Sioux Falls, S.D.) is at 197 (99-98), while junior Abby Doorn (Spencer, Iowa) is at 212 (111-101).
The final 18 holes of the event are set for Tuesday.
