USD Women's Tennis Team Adds Makashov for 2010-11 Season

VERMILLION, S.D. -- University of South Dakota women’s tennis coach Malcolm Gilreath has announced the addition of Veronika Makashov for the 2010-11 season.

Makashov, who spent last season at the University of Texas-El Paso, will have three years of eligibility remaining at USD.

"I am very excited to have Veronika joining our University and team this fall,” Gilreath said. “Her experience competing at another Division I school along with her talent will definitely make us a much stronger team. She is very competitive in the classroom and on the court and will be a great fit for us".

Makashov, a native of Richmond Hill, Ontario, had a solid freshman campaign at UTEP, posting a 12-13 record at singles. She led the team with nine victories during the fall season and claimed the flight singles title in two of UTEP’s four fall events. She also claimed the doubles title at the Miner Fall Invite. In doubles play, Makashov was 7-8.

Makashov finished in the top four at the OFSAA provincial competition and won the York Regional title. She had a high ranking of 17 in the under 18 singles category and also won team MVP honors.

Makashov joins Maddy Warder of Sioux City, Iowa, as recruits for 2010-11.
